[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Byeon Gwang-yong, mayor of Geoje City, Gyeongnam, from the Democratic Party of Korea, is running for re-election.
Geoje City announced on the 5th that it has switched to a system with Park Hwan-gi, deputy mayor, acting as the authority following Mayor Byeon's candidate registration.
Mayor Byeon stated, "I will temporarily step down from the duties of the Geoje mayor until June 1st to quickly overcome Geoje's crisis and boldly create a new Geoje of dreams and hope together with the citizens, and I hereby declare my candidacy for the 8th term of the Geoje mayor."
He continued, "The achievements and foundations we built together over the past four years must not be destroyed," and emphasized, "In the next four years, I will wrap up the projects of the 7th term and, based on those achievements, create a Geoje of dreams and hope together with the citizens."
As his pledges, he promised to establish a foundation for the sustained growth and re-advancement of the shipbuilding and marine industries, create a base for future food industries, establish a central city foundation in the southeastern region, and develop a global marine tourism city.
