[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The global theme park Legoland Korea (hereafter Legoland) officially opened on May 5th, Children’s Day, welcoming customers. Legoland Korea is the tenth Legoland to open worldwide.
Spanning 280,000 square meters, Legoland Korea is composed of seven themed zones based on popular Lego series: ▲Brick Street ▲Bricktoria ▲Lego Castle ▲Lego Ninjago World ▲Pirate Seas ▲Lego City ▲Miniland. Featuring about 40 rides and attractions, including globally popular ones such as the ‘Dragon Coaster,’ ‘Driving School,’ and ‘Fire Academy,’ it aims to provide a fun experience that stimulates imagination and innocence for children aged 2 to 12 and their families.
On the day, Legoland held an opening ceremony on the stage set up in front of the park’s main entrance to welcome visitors. The event was attended by John Jacobson, President of Legoland Resorts at Merlin Entertainments, the operator of Legoland, and Phil Royle, President of Legoland Korea. The ceremony began with entertainment shows and a parade, followed by a welcome speech from President Phil Royle and an opening countdown.
At the event, Legoland’s mascots Mike and Amy, along with various popular Lego characters, appeared to greet customers visiting Legoland on its first day. Additionally, parades and performances took place starting 30 minutes before the opening.
President Phil Royle said at the ceremony, “Legoland Korea is a place for children and their families, and it is especially meaningful to open today on Children’s Day. Legoland Korea will be the perfect theme park for anyone seeking a true Lego experience,” adding, “We hope everyone who visits on the opening day will have an unforgettable and enjoyable experience.”
Following this, during the opening countdown, President Phil Royle and Legoland’s exclusive children’s reporter group, the ‘Kids Reporters,’ took the stage to shout the countdown together with Legoland visitors, celebrating the official opening.
