[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun]President Moon Jae-in said on the 4th, "The next government (Yoon Suk-yeol government) will be launched amid almost completely denying the achievements of our government, and it will be compared with our government's achievements, performance, and indicators."
On the same day, President Moon made this remark during a luncheon at the Blue House with members of the National Policy Task Committee to commemorate the publication of the Moon Jae-in government white paper. He said, "Since we have left a white paper including extensive national data and statistics, comparisons will be made with other governments based on these materials."
President Moon said, "(The new government) feels that its national philosophy differs from ours in many ways, but regardless of philosophy and ideology, I hope that from the perspective of the people, national interest, and practicality, the parts our government did well will be developed further, and the shortcomings will be reflected upon to do better."
This statement appears to be in consideration of some analyses that the national tasks announced by President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol's side the day before completely negate the policies of the Moon Jae-in government. Furthermore, it can be interpreted as a message asking that even if there is criticism, achievements should be inherited as they are to show continuity of good policies.
President Moon also said, "The vast national records we have left are very meaningful in that they do not remain just as records but become guidelines and references for future governments." He continued, "Ultimately, history is records," and emphasized, "Although nowadays national affairs are always open and the media covers everything so that everything seems to be recorded, sometimes the media can be biased, so it is the government's responsibility to leave comprehensive national records."
President Moon also mentioned former President Roh Moo-hyun.
He said, "Former President Roh did not like the phrase 'History will recognize (the government's achievements) over time,'" explaining, "Because it implies consolation that 'Although it is not evaluated now, it will be evaluated over time.'"
President Moon said, "However, it is actually coming true as he said. The achievements of the Roh Moo-hyun government are increasingly highly evaluated over time, and that is because they left national data and statistical materials at the time," adding, "Whenever those indicators are compared with the next government, it becomes clear that the Roh Moo-hyun government was competent in both economy and security."
Meanwhile, regarding the achievements of the National Policy Task Committee, President Moon evaluated, "The civil service society is the foundation that develops the Republic of Korea, but there are limits to making major reforms," and said, "The vision of the National Policy Task Committee composed of experts and the competence of the civil service society met to achieve reforms."
