Democratic Party Gwangju Nam-gu Basic Councilor Preliminary Candidates Strongly Urge for 'Reconsideration'

On the 3rd, six Democratic Party Nam-gu district council preliminary candidates?Nam Gwangin, Lee Byeongcheol, Lee Uiseon, Jo Miae, Ha Seongcheon, and Han Junsu?visited the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party Office to protest and urged a fair review by the reconsideration committee.

They also strongly demanded the disclosure of the Public Official Recommendation Committee’s scores and explanations regarding rumors circulating in the local political circles about prior agreements for the nomination of certain candidates.

They stated, “The Democratic Party Nam-gu district council electoral district A is a highly competitive area in the Gwangju local elections, with 10 candidates ranging from people in their 30s to seniors in their 70s running. Although opinions in the local political circles and public sentiment were divided on whether a primary should be held, the nomination and exclusion process has been unclear. Incumbent council members received nominations as the main candidates, and some candidates who did not properly participate in the last presidential election were nominated, causing unrest among local political circles and public sentiment.”

They added, “We strongly condemn the revival of old-fashioned politics and the secretive nomination by the local party chairperson who ignored the will of the local residents, and once again demand a nomination through a primary election.”
