Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station Strengthens Fire Safety Management at Escape Room Cafes and More

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 3rd, the Northern Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that with the revision of the Enforcement Rules of the Special Act on Safety Management of Multi-use Facilities, three new types of businesses, including escape room cafes, will be included as multi-use facilities, and fire safety management will be strengthened.

Currently, escape room, kids, and comic cafes are free businesses that anyone can operate by simply registering their business, but from June 8th, when starting business or changing the business owner, they will be classified as multi-use facilities.

If classified as a multi-use facility, safety facilities such as fire-fighting equipment and emergency exits must be installed and maintained according to laws and regulations. Obligations as a multi-use facility operator include maintaining and managing evacuation and fire prevention facilities such as fire doors, conducting regular inspections of safety facilities, subscribing to (no-fault) fire liability insurance, and completing fire safety education for business owners and employees.

Kim Gwan-ho, Head of the Prevention and Safety Division, said, “We will conduct a full survey and send guidance documents regarding the three newly added types of multi-use facilities, including escape room cafes, to ensure no confusion among business owners through focused promotion.” He added, “Since multi-use facilities used by many people have a high risk of casualties in case of fire or other accidents, we ask for the active cooperation of business owners to strengthen safety management.”
