Yeosu Coast Guard Reports Ship Collision Accident in Front of Odongdo at Dawn

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Maritime Police Station announced on the 3rd that "a minor collision occurred between a 9-ton tongseon (contact boat) and a 4-ton diving fishing boat near Odongdo, resulting in partial damage to the vessels and injuries to two crew members."

According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at around 3:27 a.m. that day, a collision occurred about 550 meters northeast off Odongdo, Yeosu City, between the 9-ton tongseon A (registered in Yeosu, 6 crew members) and the 4-ton diving fishing boat B (registered in Yeosu, 3 crew members), which was reported to Yeosu Port VTS by the tongseon captain.

Upon receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched nearby patrol vessels and rescue teams. When the rescue forces arrived and checked the safety status of the crew, two injured persons with facial abrasions were transferred to a rescue boat and handed over to the 119 ambulance team waiting at Yeosu New Port, then transported to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the other crew members showed no health abnormalities. Although the stern of tongseon A was partially damaged due to the collision, both vessels were confirmed to be in a safe condition.

There was no marine pollution caused by this collision accident, and the extent of human and material damage was not significant. Breathalyzer tests conducted on the captains of both vessels showed no abnormalities.

A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "We plan to analyze the cause of the collision through on-site inspection of the collision area and track analysis, and conduct an accurate investigation of the accident circumstances targeting the vessel personnel."
