[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Sampyo Group is constructing its first headquarters building. Construction will begin in July, with completion targeted for December 2025.
According to Sampyo Group and the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 3rd, Sampyo Group will build a new headquarters on a site of 8,570.4㎡ (2,592.55 pyeong) within Special Planning Zone 10 (Sampyo Energy site) in the district unit planning area around Susaek and Digital Media City (DMC) Station in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. The total floor area will be 100,000㎡ (approximately 30,000 pyeong) across three buildings.
The new headquarters will consist of one 27-story office building and two residential buildings. The design is entrusted to BCHO Architects, led by architect Cho Byung-soo, who is highly regarded for artistic works such as Gwanghwamun Twin Tree Tower, Namhae Southcape Hotel, and the Kisswire Memorial Hall. Sampyo Group plans to lease the two residential buildings to the private sector and use the top nine floors of the office building as its headquarters.
Since 2020, Sampyo Group has actively collected employees' opinions through surveys and reflected them in the design. Welfare facilities for employees will be located on three floors (6th to 8th floors) within the headquarters, including a fitness center, training rooms, cafeteria, customer reception rooms, and an in-house restaurant with 200 seats?double the size of the current Ima Building. A rooftop observatory and garden will also be created, along with a multicultural museum (1st to 5th floors) and retail facilities such as a mart in the basement. Food and beverage (F&B) stores are planned to open on the 1st to 4th floors of the adjacent two residential buildings, which is expected to reduce employees' lunchtime menu concerns.
Sampyo Group's new headquarters will be completed as a smart office integrating the latest technologies. Automatic access is enabled through facial recognition software, eliminating the need for separate security cards, and six employee-only elevators will be automatically called upon arrival. Digital information boards inside the building will provide real-time updates on weather, traffic, company announcements, and event information. Meeting rooms can be reserved via an integrated digital platform, and visitor reservations and self-check-in are possible through a mobile app. Additionally, lighting brightness and indoor temperature can be controlled via the mobile app, and blinds automatically adjust according to sunlight. The smart parking system will display available spaces and provide parking location alerts.
The office environment for employees will also be significantly improved. The average workspace per person will expand to 7.6㎡ (approximately 2.3 pyeong), with three types of seating arrangements: focused, general, and flexible. Separate meeting rooms, lounges, and pantries will be created within the workspaces.
Most construction raw and subsidiary materials will be designed and constructed using Sampyo products, with high-strength concrete used in the basement and main columns to strictly comply with seismic design and structural safety regulations. In particular, the building’s exterior and first-floor lobby will feature advanced designs using exposed concrete and glass to showcase Sampyo products and technology at a glance.
A Sampyo Group official stated, "The new headquarters is scheduled for completion in December 2025, with occupancy planned for early 2026," adding, "Bringing together dispersed affiliates in one location will serve as an opportunity for the group’s renewed growth."
