On the 2nd, Won Hee-ryong, the nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated regarding the redevelopment project of the first-generation new towns, "We will create a special law and immediately begin drafting a master plan along with the special law."
On the same day, during a confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly, Won responded to a question from Hong Ki-won, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asking whether he intended to create a special reconstruction law for the first-generation new towns.
Regarding whether he intended to actively revise the bills related to the redevelopment of the first-generation new towns that have already been submitted to the National Assembly, he said, "I am not specifically referring to those bills."
Concerning the previously submitted bills, Won said, "In the new town redevelopment projects, safety inspections and floor area ratios have been issues, and since there was no prior national funding, I understand that related content was included," but he refrained from elaborating, stating, "(Regarding the contents of the special law) rather than expressing opinions on each detail, I will reveal them gradually."
Earlier in the morning session, Won commented on the conflicting remarks within the Presidential Transition Committee regarding the first-generation new towns, saying, "There was confusion because ideas emerged from the spokesperson group and the real estate task force within the transition committee where authority and responsibility did not align."
