[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] System semiconductor company Truewin is showing strong performance. It appears that the news about expanding core technologies related to infrared thermal imaging sensors and cameras through industry-academic cooperation with the Nano Convergence Technology Institute is influencing the stock price. Stocks related to Urban Air Mobility (UAM), such as Vessel, FiberPro, and Gisan Telecom, are also surging, spreading buying momentum.
As of 2:17 PM on the 2nd, Truewin is trading at 4,220 KRW, up 4.98% compared to the previous trading day.
Established in 2004, the Nano Convergence Technology Institute is an affiliated institution of KAIST that promotes research and development support through shared use of facilities and equipment, as well as the practical application of research outcomes. Last month, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol visited following the establishment of the 'National Nano Semiconductor Comprehensive Research Institute' and the creation of the 'Nano Semiconductor Industrial Complex.'
Hanwha Intelligence, a joint venture between Truewin, which holds a 49% stake, and Hanwha Systems, has completed the establishment of a mass production system. Application product cases include securing and domesticating core technologies related to night vision, which foreign companies currently dominate, and building monitoring systems for healthcare of elderly living alone due to aging and the increase of single-person households.
The new government declared Korea's '6 major industries,' emphasizing future growth industries such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and autonomous vehicles within the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. According to global market research firm Fortune Business Insights, the global night vision market, which was valued at 4.7 billion USD (approximately 6 trillion KRW) in 2019, is expected to nearly double to 9 billion USD (approximately 11 trillion KRW) by 2027.
A Truewin official stated, "The company is advancing the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) business in connection with Hanwha Intelligence, targeting the defense and autonomous vehicle markets, and conducting a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) foundry business. We plan to actively enter fields such as infrared (IR) sensors for thermal imaging products and system semiconductors for vehicles, which are next-generation growth businesses."
