[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 2nd that it will hold the '2022 Youth Tourism Contest (Travel League)' to solicit unique travel courses from various regions across the country.

This is the third time the contest has been held, designed to strengthen future capabilities by spreading youth-led travel culture and content. This year, under the theme of 'Planning Travel Courses for Small Towns with Themes,' travel course proposals are being accepted for 80 population-declining areas designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, excluding the metropolitan area and major cities.

Judging will be conducted through a written evaluation based on the originality of the travel area and theme, completeness, and appropriateness of the plan, selecting a total of 90 teams. Selected teams will receive travel support funds of up to 200,000 KRW per person and travel kits. They will also receive guidance and consultation from travel experts and conduct practical travel from late June to mid-July.

The organization will select the final five teams through a results report evaluation. One grand prize team will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 1.5 million KRW. One excellence award team and three merit award teams will receive the Korea Tourism Organization President’s Award and prizes of 1 million KRW and 500,000 KRW respectively.

The contest is open to youth aged 19 to 34 who are interested in travel. Applications can be submitted individually or as teams of two or more.

Ahn Hyowon, head of the National Tourism Marketing Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "We look forward to the active participation of young people with fresh travel ideas in this contest," adding, "We hope this will be an opportunity to discover innovative tourism content for population-declining areas and to encourage the MZ generation to take an interest in regional travel."
