[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 2nd that it has launched dedicated equipment for the domestic 'I-eum 5G' (5G specialized network).
The newly introduced I-eum 5G dedicated equipment is a radio base station and a 5G integrated base station supporting ultra-high frequency bands called 'Compact Macro.' Samsung Electronics is the only company in Korea to support both the I-eum 5G dedicated frequencies of 4.7 GHz and 28 GHz bands.
The dedicated equipment applies the 'NR-DC' (New Radio Dual Connectivity) technology, which connects the 4.7 GHz and 28 GHz bands simultaneously, for the first time in Korea. This allows companies using the specialized network to further enhance frequency utilization efficiency.
Additionally, Samsung Electronics' I-eum 5G equipment is specialized to expand the frequency upload ratio to about 40%, double the typical communication network's (approximately 20%), to implement enterprise-exclusive services with high data upload demands.
Through this, companies using Samsung Electronics' I-eum 5G dedicated products can quickly upload vast amounts of data collected by devices in factories, offices, and SOC facilities to the cloud or servers by utilizing the wide upload bandwidth.
Moreover, with the capability for high-resolution video uploads, it is expected to be advantageous for activating enterprise-exclusive services such as detecting defective products in production processes using video analysis artificial intelligence (AI) technology or enabling field personnel to communicate with CCTV control towers and augmented reality (AR).
Jang Yong, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division B2B·B2G Group, said, "Samsung Electronics' I-eum 5G dedicated equipment is a product that combines our 5G technology capabilities and research results on enterprise 5G services." He added, "Samsung Electronics hopes to expand the commercialization of I-eum 5G in Korea by discovering various cases using the I-eum 5G network with domestic companies in SOC facilities, factories, educational facilities, parks, concert halls, etc., and contribute to the promotion of public interest."
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is also building enterprise-exclusive 5G specialized networks overseas in the United States, Japan, Europe, and other regions, and is expanding its business into the global market by stably supporting differentiated commercial services tailored to local conditions in each market.
