[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Former external cooperation officer of the Presidential Committee on Jobs under the Moon Jae-in administration, Kim Yi-gang, has been selected as the Democratic Party candidate for the Gwangju Seo-gu Mayor in the June 1 local elections, and former Gwangju City Deputy Mayor Park Byung-gyu has been selected as the candidate for Gwangsan-gu Mayor.
The Democratic Party Gwangju City Party announced on the 30th that former external cooperation officer Kim was nominated as the Seo-gu Mayor candidate, and former deputy mayor Park was nominated as the Gwangsan-gu Mayor candidate.
In the Seo-gu mayoral primary, former external cooperation officer Kim won with 41.61%, defeating Kim Bo-hyun (29.71%), former spokesperson of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development under President Moon Jae-in, and Hwang Hyun-taek (28.69%), former Gwangju City Council member.
In the Gwangsan-gu mayoral primary, former deputy mayor Park won with 42.51%, defeating Yoon Nan-sil (23.97%), former Secretary for Institutional Reform at the Blue House under President Moon Jae-in, and Choi Chi-hyun (33.52%), former Political Planning and Administration Officer at the Blue House under President Moon Jae-in.
The primaries were conducted from the 29th to the 30th through a public participation primary (50% party members, 50% general citizens).
Incumbent mayor Lim Taek was nominated as the Democratic Party candidate for Dong-gu Mayor, incumbent mayor Kim Byung-nae for Nam-gu Mayor, and incumbent mayor Moon In for Buk-gu Mayor, all seeking re-election.
The Democratic Party Gwangju City Party also announced 60 candidates for 20 basic councilor electoral districts on the same day.
By electoral district, Dong-gu includes Moon Seon-hwa, Kim Hyun-sook, and Jeong Yi-sik; Dong-gu Na includes Noh Jin-sung, Kim Jae-sik, and Park Seong-young; Seo-gu includes Kim Hyeong-mi, Jeon Seung-il, and Kim Su-young; Seo-gu Na includes Lim Seong-hwa, Jeong Woo-seok, and Oh Gwang-rok; Seo-gu Da includes Go Gyeong-ae and Baek Jong-han; Seo-gu Ra includes Ahn Hyeong-ju, Yoon Jeong-min, and Kang Seon-ju.
Nam-gu includes Nam Ho-hyeon, Kim Gyeong-muk, and Kim Gwang-su; Nam-gu Na includes Shin Jong-hyeok, Hwang Gyeong-a, and Jeong Chang-su; Nam-gu Da includes Park Sang-gil, Oh Young-sun, and Seo Sang-gi candidates advancing to the main election.
Buk-gu includes Go Yeong-im, Jeon Mi-yong, and Go Jeom-rye; Buk-gu Na includes Shin Jeong-hoon, Kim Geon-an, and Choi Mu-song; Buk-gu Da includes Lee Suk-hee, Kim Yeong-sun, and Yang Ok-gyun; Buk-gu Ra includes Jeong Dal-seong, Kim Hyeong-su, and Lee Bu-il; Buk-gu Ma includes Hwang Ye-won, Lim Jong-guk, and Joo Sun-il; Buk-gu Ba includes Han Yang-im, Jeong Jae-seong, and Kang Seong-hoon candidates nominated.
Gwangsan-gu includes Yang Man-ju, Jeong Jae-bong, Park Hyeon-seok, and Jeong Seong-beom; Gwangsan-gu Na includes Yoon Hye-young, Kim Myeong-su, and Gong Byeong-cheol; Gwangsan-gu Da includes Park Hae-won, Jo Yeong-im, and Lee Hye-gyeong; Gwangsan-gu Ra includes Lee Woo-hyeong, Kim Mi-ae, and Yoon Yeong-il; Gwangsan-gu Ma includes Kim Yeong-seon, Kim Tae-wan, and Kim Gi-sun candidates.
