Notification of Denial of Change Permit Application and Decision on Loss of Effectiveness

Yeoncheon-gun Decides to Deny Permission for Islamic Camping Site Development Yeoncheon County Council Passes Resolution Opposing the Influx of Islam into Yeoncheon [Yeoncheon County Council]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Yeoncheon-gun announced on the 29th that it has notified the Islamic religious organization of "disapproval" and "loss of development permit validity" regarding the application for development activity (change) permit for the campsite construction in Sinseo-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun.

According to Yeoncheon-gun, the Korea Islamic Foundation applied to the county at the end of March for a development activity (change) permit to extend the permit period.

In response, the county reviewed the consultation with related departments and the fulfillment of the original permit conditions, and decided to disapprove the change permit application and declare the permit invalid.

Previously, the religious organization applied to the county in October 2020 for development activities to construct a campsite and access roads on a 23,363㎡ area in Dosin-ri, Sinseo-myeon, and applied for an extension as the permit period expired in March.

So far, no building report or campsite registration application for operating the campsite has been submitted.

A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, "Additional development, which some are concerned about, is prohibited under relevant laws," and added, "This matter will continue to be handled lawfully according to related laws."

Meanwhile, the Yeoncheon-gun Council also expressed opposition to the influx of Islam into Yeoncheon-gun after the 269th extraordinary session ended on the 26th.

The council opposed the permit for Islamic religious facilities, stating, "If Islamic-related auxiliary facilities and commercial areas are strengthened, there is a high risk of harm to local small business owners and concerns about damaging the local identity and public morals."
