- The 18th Korea Youth Expo Held for Three Days from May 26 to 28
- Slogan: 'Youth Opening a New Door in the Digital Era'... Full Utilization of Metaverse Platform
The 18th Korea Youth Expo, hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and organized by the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency, will be held for three days from Thursday, May 26 to Saturday, May 28.
In celebration of Youth Month in May, the opening ceremony and the awards ceremony for youth development and protection contributors, originally scheduled to be held online, will be conducted in a hybrid format both online and offline at 2 p.m. on the 26th in the main conference room of Myeongdong Post Tower, following the easing of COVID-19 social distancing measures.
Since its first event in 2005, the Korea Youth Expo is now in its 18th edition. Starting from the 16th expo in 2020, it transitioned to a non-face-to-face online expo, creating a meeting place where anyone can participate without restrictions of time and space. Last year, more than 750,000 youths participated in the expo, establishing it as Korea’s representative youth festival.
Notably, this year’s expo adopts a new format based on the metaverse, which has been recognized as a core of the global future industry, under the slogan “Youth, Opening a New Door in the Digital Era.” The expo will focus on utilizing metaverse platforms such as oVice, ZEPETO, and ROBLOX, and plans to lead the digital transformation and communication of youth activities as a representative youth expo through connections with other platforms like the official website and YouTube.
This expo offers various programs that youth can directly participate in and enjoy, including “Mentor Lectures” by speakers well-known among the MZ generation such as big data expert Song Gil-young (Vice President of Daumsoft), Street Woman Fighter cast member Hyojin Choi (dancer), and YouTube creator Shin-hyuk Lee (PD of ‘Tikitik’); “I am Korea’s Youth,” where 100 youth speakers share their experiences; the “K-USTAR Competition” showcasing youth talents; the “7-Cut Youth World Drawing Contest in the Metaverse” using ZEPETO and ROBLOX platforms; and the “ROBLOX Youth World Contest.”
Additionally, related to the expo’s theme of digital transformation, there will be a “Future Science and Technology Exhibition” introducing promising future science and technology, non-face-to-face science education programs where participants can enjoy science experiences through AR and VR, and participatory environmental programs such as the “Carbon Neutrality Campaign with Bandi,” which promotes carbon neutrality in daily life.
Meanwhile, the Korea Youth Expo is currently recruiting youth hosts for the opening and closing ceremonies until Monday, May 9, and is also accepting applications for the “7-Cut Youth World Drawing Contest in the Metaverse” (until May 8) and the “ROBLOX Youth World Contest” (until May 15).
