Public Market Usage Fee Reduction for Three Months Starting in June
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will continue to reduce usage fees for public market merchants this year to overcome COVID-19.
The county decided to reduce usage fees for six public markets in the area, including Uljin Baji Market, due to prolonged business difficulties caused by COVID-19 and the increase in public land prices, which have led to higher public market usage fees.
The reduction criteria will be applied at the same level as the previous year, and the reduction will be supported for three months from June to August.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the county has reduced public market usage fees every year to ease the burden on merchants, and this year's reduction is expected to benefit about 300 merchants.
The fee reduction will be implemented by the towns and townships responsible for charging the market usage fees, and fees already charged will be refunded or deducted from the next payment.
Baek Unhwa, Director of the Job and Economy Division, said, "I hope this usage fee reduction will provide some comfort to market merchants," adding, "To revitalize the recently stagnant traditional markets, we will create a clean traditional market through facility maintenance such as signboards and arcades, and disinfection, and we will strive to make the market friendly and a place people want to revisit through merchant education and benchmarking."
