Jeonnam Province's 4 Lifestyle Sports Competitions to be Held in Haenam

Second Half of the Year Sports Competitions Including Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival Follow One After Another

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeollanam-do Haenam-gun announced on the 27th that four provincial-level sports events, including the 2022 Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival, will be held.

The Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival is the largest life sports festival in the province, gathering amateur athletes from 22 cities and counties. It has not been held for the past two years since 2019 due to COVID-19.

In Haenam, this is the first provincial-level sports event held in five years since the 55th Jeollanam-do Sports Festival in 2016, signaling the full-scale revitalization of life sports, which had been subdued due to COVID-19.

This year in Haenam-gun, the events will be held consecutively starting with the 17th Senior Life Sports Festival in June, followed by the 6th Jeollanam-do Children’s Life Sports Festival in August, the Jeollanam-do Disabled Life Sports Competition in September, and the 34th Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival in October.

The Senior Life Sports Festival, scheduled for June 16-17, is a life sports event for the elderly featuring gateball, archery, ground golf, and mountain climbing. The Children’s Life Sports Festival, scheduled for August 27, will include events such as balloon pillar stacking, color plate flipping, hula hoop king, and team tug-of-war. The Disabled Life Sports Competition, scheduled for two days starting September 22, will feature eight events including gateball, volleyball, and boccia.

The Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival, the largest life sports event in Jeollanam-do, will be held over three days from October 28 to 30. Residents from 22 cities and counties will participate in 22 events including kendo, gateball, and archery.

It is expected that about 35,000 people including athletes, officials, and spectators will visit Haenam for the four events, which is anticipated to greatly help revitalize the local economy after COVID-19.

The county has entered full-scale preparations aiming for a successful event, including forming a TF team, organizing a committee, establishing event plans, and building cooperation systems with related organizations. Before the main event in October, a scaled-down pre-event of the 2022 Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival will be held.

A county official said, “As a result of the combined efforts of the county, the sports association, and residents to unite their will for sports marketing, all the Jeollanam-do life sports events this year will be held in Haenam. This year, Haenam is scheduled to host 65 events across 26 sports, including 22 events in 15 nationwide sports categories. We will do our best to prepare for the successful hosting of the 2022 Jeollanam-do Life Sports Festival and the other four major events.”
