[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The office of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol expressed a desire for former President Moon Jae-in, who showed a negative stance on the plan to relocate the presidential office, to "focus on his duties."
On the 27th, Bae Hyun-jin, spokesperson for the President-elect, held a briefing at the Presidential Transition Committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and responded to a question about the President-elect's position on Moon's remarks from the previous day.
Spokesperson Bae explained, "When President-elect Yoon met with President Moon at the Blue House immediately after the election, there was a discussion between the two about relocating the presidential office," adding, "At that time, President Moon said, 'I think it was a good decision not to move to Gwanghwamun,' and I understand he decided not to comment further."
He continued, "President Moon has less than half a month left in his term," and said, "As he approaches the end of his tenure, I believe he will focus on all matters related to protecting the people and constitutional values as president."
Earlier, in a JTBC interview the previous day, President Moon criticized President-elect Yoon's plan to move the presidential office to Yongsan, saying, "Personally, I do not think it is very appropriate," and pointed out, "Relocating the office is a national long-term plan, but there was no public opinion gathering on where would be suitable."
He added, "Moreover, during the regime change when our national security crisis is at its peak, pushing forward with things like 'Leave the Ministry of National Defense by the end of March, vacate the room,' and 'We will start work from May 10'?I think such actions are truly dangerous," he criticized.
