[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is helping low-income single-parent families achieve self-reliance.
The city announced on the 27th that it will accept applications for single-parent family self-reliance support funds at administrative welfare centers until the 25th of next month.
The support funds provide up to 1 million KRW per household for vocational training living expenses and medical treatment costs, and up to 3 million KRW for housing rental support.
Vocational training living expenses are paid to those who have received vocational training from the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Medical treatment costs can be received if the applicant has undergone outpatient treatment for 20 days or more, or inpatient treatment for 10 days or more.
Housing rental support funds are provided to households who are scheduled to move into permanent rental housing but have not been able to prepare the rental deposit.
Low-income single-parent families who meet the support requirements can visit the administrative welfare center in their residential jurisdiction to apply within the application period.
For more detailed information about the support, please refer to the websites of each autonomous district or inquire through the local administrative welfare center.
After the application deadline, the city plans to hold a fund operation review committee meeting in June to finalize the support recipients after verifying supporting documents and conducting fact-finding investigations, and to start providing support funds from July.
The support fund budget will be covered by interest income from the Gender Equality Fund, with a total planned support scale of 47 million KRW.
Park Mun-yong, Director of the Youth and Family Bureau of the city, said, “This support project is being promoted to help single-parent families who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic achieve self-reliance,” adding, “The city will expand support for single-parent families to eliminate social prejudice and discrimination against them and to create a society where everyone is respected.”
