The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that it will hold the 'Land and Transportation Data Utilization Competition' to discover creative ideas from the private sector using data in the land and transportation fields.
This competition, jointly hosted by the Ministry and its affiliated organizations, integrates the Ministry's 'Land and Transportation Big Data Hackathon' and the Korea Expressway Corporation's 'Startup and Pseudonymized Information Combination Contest.'
The contest categories include policy (startup) ideas in the land and transportation sector, service planning, and data analysis on given topics.
Anyone in the public can participate individually or form a team of up to three members.
Those who wish to participate can apply through the National Transportation Data Open Market by June 28.
A judging panel composed of private experts and others will select a total of seven winning teams through document and presentation evaluations and award prizes.
The total prize money amounts to 25 million KRW. One grand prize team will receive the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award and 7 million KRW, while six excellence award teams will receive institutional head awards and 3 million KRW each.
Winning teams will also have the opportunity to participate in the finals of the Public Data Utilization Startup Competition hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in August.
For awardees preparing to start a business, systematic follow-up support such as startup mentoring and preferential interest rates (in the transportation sector) will be provided.
Lee Woo-je, Policy Planning Officer of the Ministry, said, "We hope that the future generation leading digital innovation will actively participate and that many novel ideas based on public data will be discovered."
