[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) will hold the 27th Dobong Residents' Day commemorative event on April 29 at 3 p.m. at Dobong Harmony Hall, Dobong Residents' Center (552 Dobong-ro).
At this commemorative event, the Dobong Residents' Award ceremony and Honorary Mayor appointment ceremony will be held together for residents who have contributed to the development of the district in various fields such as community development and social service.
The 2022 Dobong Residents' Awards will be presented to four individuals and one organization: ▲Park Dae-seok, Chairman of Chang 2-dong Defense Council (Community Development category) ▲Choi Seong-dal, Representative of Neighborhood 119 Volunteer Group (Individual Social Service category) ▲Hwang Young-seon, Chairman of Banghak 1-dong Barugesalgi Committee (Culture and Sports Promotion category) ▲Lee Chun-seong, CEO of Smart Joongang Construction (Public Morals category) ▲Dobong Citizens' Solar Power Social Cooperative (Social Service Organization category).
Also, the 2022 Honorary Mayors appointed are ▲Choi Gwi-ok, Vice Director of Dobong Cultural Center (Culture and Sports field) ▲Kim Yong-ryeon, Member of Dobong Innovation Education Steering Committee (Education field) ▲Choi In-seol, CEO of Youth Education and Culture Platform LOE (Youth field) ▲Kim Yong-chu, Chairman of Dobong-gu Social Welfare Council (Health and Welfare field) ▲Moon Jin, Chairman of Seoul Deaf Association Dobong Branch (Disability field) ▲Kim Kyung-sook, Chairperson of Chang 1-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee (Women field), totaling six people.
The appointment period is from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023.
The celebration program is also rich. It includes watching congratulatory interview videos directly told by Dobong residents and a musical gala show featuring musical actor Nam Kyung-joo and ensemble actors.
In particular, a collaborative performance titled ‘Dobong Residents' Grand Chorus,’ featuring local artists, Dobong Residents' Art Group, and the Dobong-gu Mayor, will be staged.
Mayor Lee Dong-jin of Dobong-gu said, “I am glad that with the lifting of social distancing, we can meet with residents and celebrate the 27th Dobong Residents' Day together. I sincerely thank all residents who have run together for the development of ‘A city for people, Greater Dobong.’”
The Dobong Harmony Hall at Dobong Residents' Center, where this event is held, was reopened last November after facility improvement and renovation.
Gwangjin-gu is hosting the ‘2022 Naru Young Artist Concert’ to revitalize the atmosphere that had been stagnant due to COVID-19 and to invigorate residents' lives.
Hosted by the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation, this concert is part of the ‘2022 Rising Star Project’ aimed at discovering and supporting young performing artists with ties to Gwangjin-gu.
Through a one-month public recruitment starting in February, the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation selected next-generation classical artists including ▲Kim Seo-hyun (violinist) ▲Lee Sang-yeon (violinist) ▲Lee Su-a (pianist) ▲Oh Hyo-hee (pianist) ▲Choi Soo-young (violinist).
The performances will be held twice at 7:30 p.m. on April 29 and May 27 at the Naru Arts Center Grand Theater, featuring familiar classical pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, and others.

The Gwangjin Cultural Foundation, considering the COVID-19 situation, recruited participants only in the classical genre in the first half of the year but plans to recruit artists from all performance genres in the second half.
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) will hold various face-to-face concerts to help residents recover their daily lives.
Guro-gu announced on the 27th, “Due to the impact of COVID-19, many events have been held online for over two years. With the full lifting of social distancing, we will operate face-to-face events.”
First, on the 30th, the ‘Sarreu Spring’ concert will be held at Cheonwang Walk Rest Area. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be Bubble Max’s bubble show, harmonica performance by resident Kim Won-seok, musical gala show by Guro Youth Culture and Arts Center team, yodeling by Kim Hyun-jin, and balloon magic by Clown Jin.
The combination of various performances such as music, singing, and performance with the open view of Cheonwang Mountain will enhance the enjoyment of the audience.

Guro-gu will also hold the Darak Room Concert ‘Letter from the Moon’ at the Sindorim Complex Cultural Space Darak. The concert will be held every Monday from May 2 to 16, from 8 p.m. for one hour.
On the 2nd, the concert will start with yodeling by Lee Eun-kyung, known as Pengsoo Yodel Teacher, and juggling by Gwangdae Sangja. On the 9th, singer Jung Dan, former vocalist of Boohwal, will perform, and on the 16th, the concert will conclude with songs by Black Acoustic Duo Seoul Brothers and female power vocalist So Kim.

The 2022 first exhibition ‘Poetry of Sensation’ at Seongbuk-gu Choi Man-rin Art Museum continues to quietly create a sensation.
Held from April 12 to July 9, ‘Poetry of Sensation’ is the first exhibition at Seongbuk-gu Choi Man-rin Art Museum since its opening in 2020 that does not feature works by artist Choi Man-rin. Therefore, as a research theme that can convey the museum’s planning direction and the significance of the space, architect Kim Jun-sung and sculptor Choi In-soo were selected respectively.
Architect Kim Jun-sung, who began studying architecture in S?o Paulo, Brazil, formally studied architecture at Pratt Institute and Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture in New York. He gained practical experience at world-renowned offices such as ?lvaro Siza in Portugal and Steven Holl in the U.S. Returning to Korea in 1991, he worked as an architectural coordinator for Heyri Art Village in Paju and established Kim Jun-sung Architectural Research Institute and hANd Architects, designing buildings such as Atreon, Open Books, Mimesis, and Humanist headquarters. He continues collaborations with domestic and international architects including ?lvaro Siza, Peter Zumthor, SHoP, Kim Jong-gyu, and Seo Hye-rim.
He served as a professor at Konkuk University Graduate School of Architecture and is currently the principal architect of hANd+ Architects, actively expanding the horizons of architecture in urban, environmental, design, and education fields. He has received awards including the Korean Institute of Architects Awards in 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2013, the UK Wallpaper Design Award (2006), and the Kim Swoo-geun Cultural Award (2008).
Sculptor Choi In-soo studied sculpture at Seoul National University and graduated from its graduate school. He studied at the Karlsruhe University of Arts in Germany and is currently an honorary professor at Seoul National University College of Fine Arts. Starting with his first solo exhibition at Space Gallery, he has held a total of 13 solo exhibitions at Gallery Semi, Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Gallery Simon, Indang Museum, Moran Museum, Date Gallery, and Gallery Shilla.
He has been invited to numerous domestic group exhibitions at institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Museum SAN, Seoul National University Museum, Pohang City Museum of Art, Daegu Art Museum, Busan Museum of Art, Soma Museum of Art, and Seoul Museum of Art, as well as international exhibitions in Turin and Rome in Italy, Biel and Le Landeron in Switzerland, Hawaii in the U.S., and Nagoya in Japan.
His major collections include the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Moran Museum, Olympic Sculpture Park, Daejeon Government Complex, ASEM Building, and Pohang City Museum of Art. He has received the Total Art Award Grand Prize (1992) and the Kim Se-jung Sculpture Award (2001).
Meanwhile, the ‘Poetry of Sensation’ exhibition has attracted attention as BTS’s RM visited. RM posted photos of his visit on his Instagram on the 23rd, which significantly increased interest and inquiries about the exhibition.
A representative of Seongbuk-gu Choi Man-rin Art Museum said, “Besides the uniqueness of embracing the worlds of two masters in architecture and sculpture within the exhibition space called home, the fact that RM of the world-renowned group BTS visited has attracted high interest both domestically and internationally. We believe this exhibition will be an important turning point to raise public interest in modern Korean art.”

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that it will hold the ‘Love for Environment Drawing and Writing Contest’ for elementary, middle, and high school students in the district from May 2 to 31.
This contest was prepared to remind the importance of the environment and widely promote the importance of environmental protection practices.
Any elementary, middle, or high school student in Yangcheon-gu can participate and may choose one category between drawing (posters, paintings, comics, etc.) and writing (essays, memoirs, poems, etc.) to submit.
The contest themes include ▲environmental issues such as pollution, global warming, climate change ▲environmental protection activities in daily life such as energy saving, waste reduction, and resource recycling. Participants are free to express content that raises awareness of the environment.
Students wishing to participate should submit the application form and completed work by visiting the Green Environment Division at the district office or by mail (postmarked by May 31). Related forms can be found on the district office website’s notice board.
The district plans to select a total of 40 excellent works through a judging committee in each category (drawing, writing) and division (lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, high school).
Additionally, awardees will receive certificates, and the works will be actively used as environmental promotional materials through exhibitions and inclusion in a collection of excellent works.
A Green Environment Division official said, “We hope this contest will encourage students to take an interest in environmental issues and further practice environmental protection themselves.”
Geumcheon-gu announced that it will operate the ‘Computerized Accounting and Administrative Clerk Training Course’ at the Seoul Southern Women's Development Center to strengthen employment capabilities for women who have experienced career breaks and unemployed women.
This training was selected as part of the ‘2022 Gender Equality Fund Public Project’ operated by Geumcheon-gu to support women's social participation.
The ‘Computerized Accounting and Administrative Clerk Training Course,’ running from May 26 to August 12, will provide practical accounting, accounting software (Duzon), MS Office education, as well as expert employment consulting and matching days (job placement) to actively support graduates in finding employment.
Unemployed women wishing to participate can apply by noon on May 19 through the ‘Education Information’ board on the Seoul Southern Women's Development Center website.
Kim Sung-gu, Director of the Women and Family Division, said, “I hope unemployed women will challenge themselves to acquire accounting and administrative skills and become essential personnel in companies. We will continue to strive to connect women in vulnerable employment groups to quality jobs.”
