[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] A new concept market combining local specialty sales with cultural and artistic events is gaining considerable popularity.
Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk, hosted the 'River Market Goryeong' at Anrimcheon in Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk, over two days on the 23rd and 24th, attracting about 2,000 local residents, visitors, and sellers.
A total of 66 teams participated, including sellers from Munhori River Market in Yangpyeong and sellers from Goryeong and nearby areas.
The Munhori River Market sellers, who have continuously participated in the market, offered a variety of items. Local sellers also prepared handmade crafts and local agricultural specialties such as melons, blueberries, and chamoe, creating a new concept market.
Most visitors participating in the River Market were young people in their 20s and 30s, enjoying the riverside festival of Daegaya Goryeong, which features culture and art.
Goryeong-gun and Munhori River Market plan to continuously recruit sellers and hold markets. They will showcase handmade crafts by local artists, including Munhori River Market sellers, as well as seasonal local agricultural specialties highlighting regional characteristics.
An official from the county said, “Through the pilot operation of River Market Goryeong, which features culture and art, we discovered new possibilities.” Sellers wishing to participate in sales at this event can contact the Tourism Promotion Division of Goryeong County Office.
