He added, "We once again urge North Korea to promptly come to the path of diplomatic resolution for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of lasting peace."
Spokesperson Choi emphasized, "Going forward, our government will continue active diplomatic efforts for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through close cooperation between the ROK and the US based on a strong combined defense posture, as well as close collaboration with related countries."
North Korea held a military parade on the evening of the previous day to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, showcasing its military power including the new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) 'Hwasong-17.'
Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party, stated in his parade speech, "The fundamental mission of our nuclear forces is to deter war, but if a situation arises on this land that we never desire, our nuclear weapons cannot be bound solely to the mission of preventing war."
