Cheongwadae Requests Yoon President-elect to Investigate National Petition "No Response to Separation of Powers Principle"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 26th, the Blue House stated its position regarding the request for a fact-finding investigation related to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, which was raised through a national petition, saying, “We do not respond to matters that are currently under investigation or trial in accordance with the principle of separation of powers.”

The Blue House explained that 548,000 people agreed to the request for a fact-finding investigation into allegations of a botched investigation of the Busan Savings Bank involving President-elect Yoon and stock manipulation allegations involving his wife, Kim Geon-hee, which was raised by a petitioner in the national petition.

Regarding the national petition about the poor election management in Dong-gu, Daegu, the Blue House said, “The National Election Commission has acknowledged and apologized for shortcomings in election management in some areas while holding elections amid the spread of COVID-19,” adding, “We regret the controversy caused by the lack of preparation.” This petition received about 265,000 agreements.

Furthermore, the Blue House stated, “A re-election is held only when a court rules the entire election invalid according to the Public Official Election Act, so mentioning re-election seems inappropriate,” and added, “Regarding illegal matters, the National Election Commission has filed a complaint, and the police are currently investigating.”
