[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Song Young-gil, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and a preliminary candidate for Seoul mayor in the local elections, along with Representative Park Joo-min and former Representative Kim Jin-ae, canceled the scheduled TV debate on the 25th at the last minute.
The Democratic Party announced through a notice that the Seoul mayoral candidate debate, scheduled for 10:30 PM, was canceled due to internal party circumstances.
As the mediation agreement on ‘Geomsu Wanbak’ (complete separation of prosecutorial investigation rights) faced a crisis of being nullified due to a change in stance by the People Power Party, it appears related to the Democratic Party holding a Judiciary Committee bill review subcommittee meeting that night to examine the relevant bill.
Representative Park serves as the chair of the Judiciary Committee’s 1st Subcommittee. Previously, tensions arose among candidates over the process of promoting the debate.
On Facebook, Representative Park said, “Around noon today, I was contacted by the leadership and informed to attend the Seoul mayoral primary candidate debate this evening.”
The Democratic Party’s emergency committee planned to hold the first TV debate on the 25th with the three preliminary candidates for Seoul mayor?former leader Song, Representative Park, and former Representative Kim?followed by the first primary on the 26th?27th, a second TV debate on the 27th, the second primary on the 28th?29th, and finalize the candidate on the 29th.
