Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station Operates '119 Mountain Safety Volunteer Day'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Dongbu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 25th that it operated the Mudeungsan 119 Citizen Mountain Volunteer Corps, a citizen participation-type volunteer group, in the Mudeungsan National Park area to prevent mountain accidents and carry out rapid response activities.

The 119 Citizen Mountain Volunteer Corps has been operating since October 2016, consisting of 34 general citizens including guides and volunteers, to prevent mountain and safety accidents among the increasing number of hikers on Mudeungsan every year.

About 30 members of the Mudeungsan 119 Citizen Mountain Volunteer Corps and fire officials participated in the event, conducting first aid training for the specialization of the citizen mountain volunteers, safety-related campaigns for hikers, guidance on safe hiking, and meetings to revitalize the volunteer corps.

A Dongbu Fire Station official stated, “We will do our best to establish a safe hiking culture and enable rapid response in emergencies through the specialization of the citizen mountain volunteer corps.”
