Former National Assembly Members Including Jeong Munheon, Lee Seongheon, Lee Eunjae, and Jeong Taegeun Participate in People Power Party Seoul District Mayor Primary (Comprehensive)


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Former National Assembly member Jeong Mun-heon is participating in the primary election as a candidate for Jongno District Mayor under the People Power Party, while former National Assembly member Lee Seong-heon is running for Seodaemun District Mayor, and former National Assembly member Lee Eun-jae is competing for Gangnam District Mayor. All three are politicians who have served as two-term National Assembly members.


Additionally, Seongbuk District mayoral preliminary candidate Jeong Tae-geun has served as Seoul City Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs and was a member of the 18th National Assembly.


The People Power Party Seoul Metropolitan Party announced the list of "Confirmed Primary Election Regions and Candidates for the 8th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections for Basic Local Governments" on the 24th.


The Gangnam District Mayor candidate, considered a stronghold for the People Power Party with a guaranteed nomination and victory, initially had 13 preliminary candidates. Among them, former Gangnam District Health Center Director Seo Myeong-ok (a physician), Seoul City Council members Seong Jung-gi and Lee Seok-ju, and two-term former National Assembly member Lee Eun-jae were confirmed as candidates through the primary election.


Also, a three-way primary election will be held in ▲Jongno District among former Teacher Evaluation Committee Chair Lee Geun-woo, former Vice Chair of Jongno District Council Lee Suk-yeon, and two-term former National Assembly member Jeong Mun-heon ▲Jung District among former Blue House administrator Kim Gil-seong, former Seoul City Council Secretariat Chief Lee Chang-hak, and former Jung District Council Chair Im Yong-hyeok.


▲Yongsan District candidates include former district council members Kim Kyung-dae, Park Hee-young, and Jeong Nam-gil ▲Seongdong District candidates are former Seoul City Urban Regeneration Director Kang Maeng-hoon, An Seong-gyu of the Korea Peninsula Advancement Research Institute, and former city council member Lee Joo-soo ▲Dongdaemun District candidates are former city council member Ko Jeong-gyun, Shin Hyun-soo, Lee Yun-woo, and Lee Pil-hyung ▲Gangbuk District candidates are Park Jin-ung, Bae Bong-su, and Lee Seong-hee ▲Dobong District candidates are Oh Eon-seok, Lee Jae-beom, and Jang Il ▲Nowon District candidates are former city council members Kim Kwang-soo, Yoo Cheong, and Im Jae-hyeok ▲Eunpyeong District candidates are Nam Ki-jeong, Choi Hong-jae, and Hong In-jeong ▲Seodaemun District candidates are Kang Cheol-gu, former National Assembly member Lee Seong-heon, and Hong Gil-sik ▲Mapo District candidates are Kim Jin-cheon and Park Kang-su ▲Dongjak District candidates are Kim Suk-hyang, Park Il-ha, and Jang Hwan-jin ▲Gwanak District candidates are former Gwanak District Council Chair Lee Seong-sim and former city council member Lee Haeng-ja.


▲Seongbuk District candidates are former National Assembly member Jeong Tae-geun and Jo Min-guk ▲Seongbuk District candidates are former National Assembly member Jeong Tae-geun and former district council member Jo Min-guk ▲Geumcheon District candidates are former city council members Kang Gu-deok, Kim Young-seop, and Oh Bong-su.


Songpa District will hold a three-way primary among former Seoul City Council member Kang Gam-chang, former Seoul Talent Development Institute Director Seo Gang-seok, and lawyer Shin In-gyu.


Gwangjin District will have a two-way primary between former Gwangjin District Deputy Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and former Advanced Unification Party Gwangjin-eul District Committee Chair Kim Hong-jun, while Yangcheon District will hold a three-way primary among Lee Ki-jae, Jo Jae-hyun, and Lee Jong-gyu.


The People Power Party will decide the candidates for Jongno, Jung, Yongsan, Dongdaemun, Gangbuk, Dobong, Nowon, Eunpyeong, Seodaemun, Mapo, Dongjak, Gwanak, Gangnam, and Songpa District Mayors by combining 50% voter group voting and 50% general voter opinion polls.


In contrast, candidates for Seongdong, Gwangjin, Seongbuk, Yangcheon, and Geumcheon District Mayors will be decided entirely (100%) by general voter opinion polls.


The People Power Party is expected to hold the primaries around the 29th to 30th.
