[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Bukbu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City will conduct three training sessions from the 20th to the 28th in the Mudeungsan National Park area to strengthen the on-site response capabilities of rescue team members in preparation for spring mountain accidents.
In the Gwangju area, the number of hikers has continuously decreased over the past three years due to the impact of COVID-19, but the number of rescue cases has been on the rise. Among the causes of accidents, 29.6% were due to missing persons or falls, followed by mountain and other causes at 24.8%, and personal illnesses at 19%.
This training was promoted to improve mountain rescue capabilities and secure the golden time through systematic rescue training in preparation for mountain accidents such as falls, distress, and various safety accidents, as it is expected that more people will visit the mountains this spring with the lifting of social distancing measures.
The main training contents focused on ▲personal safety education ▲operation of mountain rescue equipment ▲life-saving techniques for situations such as falls and distress ▲search for missing persons using drones ▲horizontal and river crossing training ▲emergency treatment for rescued persons.
Park Jin-su, the 119 rescue team leader, said, “We will strive to strengthen the capabilities of rescue team members in preparation for mountain accidents,” and urged, “To prevent safety accidents, please choose a course suitable for your physical condition and follow mountain safety rules.”
