[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Korean Federation of Trade Unions Gyeongju Regional Branch has declared its support for Joo Nak-young, the preliminary candidate for mayor of Gyeongju.
On the 22nd, the KFTU Gyeongju Branch announced its support for candidate Joo on behalf of union representatives and about 4,000 union members at the Gyeongju Workers' Comprehensive Welfare Center.
Chairperson Choi Hee-jung explained the reason for support in the declaration, stating, “An administrative leader who proposes a rational pro-labor policy direction is needed.”
Chairperson Choi added, “Gyeongju city administration that reflects the urgent voices of workers, such as appropriate treatment improvements where the sweat of local workers who have contributed to Gyeongju’s development can shine, prevention of discrimination against non-regular and migrant workers, and industrial accident prevention, is necessary.”
She also said, “For a Gyeongju where labor is respected, preliminary candidate Joo Nak-young, who has the most experience in city administration over the past four years, knows the local industrial sites and labor issues best, and has devoted efforts to regional development, is the most suitable candidate.”
This support declaration is known to have been finalized after the Korean Federation of Trade Unions Gyeongju Regional Branch officially decided to support Joo Nak-young as the candidate for mayor of Gyeongju through a monthly representatives’ meeting and consulted the union members’ opinions.
