Bucheon, Uijeongbu, and Uiwang Cities Successfully Managed Local Tax Delinquencies Last Year

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Bucheon, Uijeongbu, and Uiwang cities in Gyeonggi Province have been selected as local governments that excelled in local tax delinquency management.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it divided 31 cities and counties into three groups based on the scale of local tax revenue in the last fiscal year and evaluated 20 detailed indicators in four areas: ▲delinquency management performance ▲delinquency disposition ▲employment of delinquency management teams and welfare linkage ▲interest of institution heads, selecting Bucheon, Uijeongbu, and Uiwang as the best local governments for local tax delinquency management.

As a result of the evaluation, in Group 1, which includes the 10 cities and counties with the largest local tax revenue, Bucheon City was awarded the grand prize, Hwaseong City the excellence prize, and Yongin City the encouragement prize.

Bucheon City received high marks for systematically managing administration and delinquency by measures such as license plate seizure to eliminate automobile tax arrears, thorough follow-up management of deferred local taxes for tracking collection, and discovering new collection techniques, resulting in the settlement of approximately 21.1 billion KRW in delinquent taxes.

In Group 2, consisting of 10 cities and counties ranked 11th to 20th in local tax revenue, Uijeongbu City won the grand prize, Yangju City the excellence prize, and Gwangju City the encouragement prize. In the remaining Group 3, which includes 11 cities and counties, Uiwang City received the grand prize, Gapyeong County the excellence prize, and Pocheon City the encouragement prize.

Uijeongbu City earned excellent scores as the top collection agency last year through active collection efforts such as property seizure of delinquents and license plate seizure. Uiwang City was highly evaluated for proactive collection activities targeting chronic delinquents, including investigation of violation cases, discovery of new collection techniques, and collection from high-amount delinquents owing over 50 million KRW.

Choi Won-sam, Director of the Tax Justice Division of the province, emphasized, "Along with performance evaluation, we will strengthen the evaluation of cities and counties' efforts for collection so that those who work hard can receive appropriate rewards, and we will continue to strive for this."
