People Power Party's Jo Gyu-il, Jinju Mayor, Declares Bid for Re-election Mayor Jo Gyu-il Press Conference.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jo Gyu-il, the current mayor of Jinju City from the People Power Party, held a press conference at 11 a.m. on the 21st to announce his challenge for re-election as mayor of Jinju in the local elections.


Mayor Jo stated, “I will complete the projects initiated during the 7th term of the elected mayor without delay and secure new growth engines for Jinju to create future food sources for Jinju’s next 100 years.”


He also said, “I will establish an aerospace industry cluster and promote the construction of the KAI rotary-wing flight center and a vertiport for urban air vertical takeoff and landing.”


Referring to himself as a “mayor who needs no practice,” he said, “Based on solid connections, I have the capability to communicate with the ruling party government and secure national and provincial funding for Jinju’s development. Please allow me to open a greater future for Jinju as a competent mayor who gets things done.”


Mayor Jo’s pledges include ▲establishing an aerospace industry cluster ▲creating a second bio complex and building a western Gyeongnam anti-aging bio belt ▲providing additional support for small business owners and self-employed people in response to COVID-19 ▲building cultural tourism infrastructure in preparation for the completion of the western Gyeongnam KTX ▲attracting a National Geological Heritage Center to the Jeongchon pterosaur footprint site ▲and restoring the Gyeongnam provincial office to Jinju.


As achievements during his 7th term as mayor, he cited the promotion of Jinju’s three major projects, expansion of roads to resolve congestion and other delayed urban infrastructure expansions, creating a city favorable for childbirth and child-rearing, selection as a UNESCO Creative City, hosting the Asian Weightlifting Championships, building a city with beautiful night views, attracting the rotary-wing flight center, and establishing an aerospace industry base.


Candidate Jo Gyu-il added, “I plan to register as a preliminary candidate soon and start full-scale election campaigning. I promise to work hard and meet you again as the mayor for the 8th term.”
