Seoul City and Market Kurly Create 'Saetbyeolsup' Garden in Seoul Forest to Reduce Carbon Emissions

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 21st that it has created ‘Saetbyeol Forest,’ a garden full of trees and flowers, by preparing a space within Seoul Forest Park in collaboration with Market Kurly.

‘Saetbyeol Forest’ is a garden established with a donation of 65 million won from Market Kurly, and it is also the first corporate-sponsored garden created since Seoul began direct management of Seoul Forest.

Created through Market Kurly’s donation, well known for its dawn delivery service, ‘Saetbyeol Forest’ is expected to contribute not only to improving the park environment for citizens visiting Seoul Forest but also to protecting the global environment by planting numerous trees that help reduce carbon emissions and improve soil ecosystems.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will not stop at just creating the garden but will maintain it as a beautiful garden as it was when first established. On Earth Day, the 22nd, it will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Market Kurly regarding maintenance and management. Seoul will provide the site for ‘Saetbyeol Forest,’ offer basic directions for project execution, support administrative cooperation, and promote the project. Market Kurly will donate sponsorship goods for the creation of ‘Saetbyeol Forest’ to Seoul and will jointly sign an MOU for project planning, construction, and facility maintenance for the next five years.

Park Mi-ae, head of the Eastern Park and Greenery Office, said, “‘Saetbyeol Forest,’ created this time, is the first corporate-sponsored garden promoted since Seoul began direct management of Seoul Forest, and we are grateful for Kurly’s voluntary and meaningful sponsorship.” She added, “As social contribution activities by citizens and companies become more active, we will strive to ensure that the benefits return to the citizens.”
