[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] It has been confirmed that the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Jeonjangyeon) was effectively excluded from the list of invitees to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's inauguration ceremony.
According to a comprehensive report by Asia Economy on the 21st, Jeonjangyeon was not invited by the Presidential Inauguration Preparation Committee (Inauguration Preparation Committee) to the inauguration ceremony scheduled for the 10th of next month. The Inauguration Preparation Committee is known to have been coordinating the schedule for sending invitations to attendees of the inauguration ceremony. However, Jeonjangyeon reportedly did not receive any related contact from the committee. A representative of the Inauguration Preparation Committee stated, "The invitation status for Jeonjangyeon has not been finalized." The committee will begin sending invitations to attendees as early as today.
Jeonjangyeon had been mentioned as a potential invitee to President-elect Yoon's inauguration ceremony. On the 30th of last month, Park Joo-sun, chairman of the Inauguration Preparation Committee, said in a radio interview that "the invitation of Park Kyung-seok, Jeonjangyeon's representative, is under consideration." Subsequently, on the 5th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Disability Policy Division attempted to contact Jeonjangyeon, requesting the recommendation of general members excluding Representative Park for participation in a meeting with the transition team. In fact, Jeonjangyeon reportedly recommended one male and one female person with disabilities as invitees.
Jeonjangyeon has been actively engaged in activities for the rights of persons with disabilities recently. This year, they led subway delay protests and held a broadcast debate with Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party. On the 42nd Disability Day yesterday, Jeonjangyeon declared that they would intensify their struggle by demanding the inclusion of disability rights budgets from the transition team. Starting today, they also plan to resume subway delay protests.
Jeonjangyeon has never been invited to any presidential inauguration ceremony in history. The only official presidential event they attended was related to the Disability Discrimination Act during the administration of former President Roh Moo-hyun.
