[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong met with Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, who is visiting Korea on the 19th.
Minister Chung told Representative Kim, "During the current administration's term, close cooperation and communication between Korea and the U.S. regarding the Korean Peninsula issues have been maintained," and added, "Going forward, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula must be sustained through continuous progress in the peace process."
He continued, regarding the recent serious situation on the Korean Peninsula, "Under the firm Korea-U.S. combined defense posture and based on seamless cooperation between Korea and the U.S., let us closely cooperate to ensure that North Korea refrains from further aggravating actions and returns to dialogue."
In response, Representative Kim expressed agreement and reaffirmed the existing position, stating, "We must respond firmly to North Korea's provocations under close Korea-U.S. cooperation," and "The U.S. remains open to unconditional dialogue with North Korea."
