[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Lee Jae-myung, former Gyeonggi Province governor and Democratic Party presidential candidate, marked the 8th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster by stating, "The truth does not sink. Lies cannot overcome patience."

On the morning of the day, Lee posted this message on his Instagram and added, "We will never forget."

He also shared an illustration by artist Seok Jeong-hyun.

The illustration, originally posted by Seok on his SNS in 2014, depicts the late singer Shin Hae-chul, who died due to medical malpractice, and the students affected by the Sewol ferry sinking gathered on a beach under clear weather.

The children gathered in front of Shin ask, "Mister! Could you sing 'Good Morning Yalli' this time?" to which Shin Hae-chul replies, "Why not? But let's do it when all the other kids gather."

'Good Morning Yalli' is a play on the lyrics 'Goodbye Yalli' from Shin's song "Fly, Chick."

Also, behind Shin stands a man wearing a straw hat reminiscent of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun.

This is the first time Lee has sent a message via SNS since the day after the presidential election on the 10th of last month.

In political circles, this has led to interpretations that Lee may be entering the countdown for a 'political comeback.'

Within the Democratic Party, theories about Lee's return have been steadily raised ahead of the June local elections, parliamentary by-elections, and the August party convention.
