[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…‘Hulk’ Bryson DeChambeau (USA, photo) will be out for about two months due to wrist surgery.
On the 15th (Korean time), the US ESPN reported, "DeChambeau underwent left wrist surgery two days ago." DeChambeau had been struggling with a small fracture in the bones of his left wrist. Through his social media (SNS), he explained, "I played the last three tournaments with wrist pain, but concluded that surgery was inevitable," adding, "It greatly affected my grip and swing." He also expressed hope, saying, "I hope to return within two months."
DeChambeau's injury originated when he fell while playing table tennis with Sergio Garcia (Spain) during the Asian Tour PIF Saudi International in February. He withdrew just before the second round and had not appeared on the PGA Tour for nearly two months since missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. He participated in the World Golf Championships (WGC) Dell Technologies Match Play but failed to advance to the round of 16 with a preliminary record of 1 draw and 2 losses.
He failed to qualify for the main rounds at both the PGA Tour Valero Texas Open and the ‘Masters Tournament’ this month. On the second day of the Masters, he collapsed helplessly with 8-over-par 80 strokes, including 1 birdie, 5 bogeys, and 2 double bogeys. DeChambeau is unlikely to participate in the season’s second major, the PGA Championship, scheduled to start on May 19. Realistically, he is expected to focus on rehabilitation aiming to compete in the US Open starting on June 16.
