[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 15th, Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, announced the appointment and recommendation of Lee Mi-hyun, Professor at Yonsei University Law School, and Lee Nam-gu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Board of Audit and Inspection, as new audit commissioners.
Lee Mi-hyun, the nominee, was born in 1961 in Seoul, graduated from Sangmyung Girls' High School and Seoul National University with a degree in law, and obtained a master's degree in law from Seoul National University and Harvard University in the United States.
She passed the 26th Judicial Examination and worked as a lawyer at the law firm Kwangjang from 1987 to 2013. Since 2013, she has been serving as a law professor at Yonsei University. She has held positions such as member of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's National Tax Review Committee and Tax System Development Committee, Administrative Appeals Committee of the Prime Minister's Office, and Financial Development Committee.
Lee Nam-gu, the nominee, was born in 1965 in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, graduated from Suwon High School and Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in Agricultural Economics, and completed a master's course in Public Administration at Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration. He passed the 38th Administrative Examination in 1994, started his public service career in 1995, transferred to the Board of Audit and Inspection in 1996, and has held positions such as Deputy Secretary-General, Head of Public Service Inspection Headquarters, Director of Social Welfare Audit Bureau, and Secretary to the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection.
In particular, in the case of nominee Lee Nam-gu, the opposition raised issues regarding the 'audit commissioner nomination rumor,' and the Blue House and the transition committee engaged in a power struggle over the appointment of audit commissioners. However, with the meeting between President Moon Jae-in and President-elect Yoon Seok-youl, the issue of appointing audit commissioners seems to have been naturally resolved. On the same day, the transition committee stated, "The President-elect also respects the personnel appointed by the Blue House."
