Jang Sang-su, Chairman of Daegu City Council, will run as a candidate for Dong-gu District Mayor in the nationwide local elections in June.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Jang Sang-su, chairman of the Daegu City Council, will run as the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Dong-gu, Daegu, in the nationwide local elections this June.
On the 14th, Chairman Jang declared his candidacy at the Daegu City Council, stating, "The relocation of K-2, which has blocked the development of Dong-gu for half a century, marks a very critical period that will determine the next 100 years."
He said, "Daegu stands at a crossroads between remaining a city losing vitality due to height restrictions, aircraft noise, development restriction zones, and river area regulations, or breaking through to innovation and leap forward."
He explained his reason for running, saying, "Due to the urgent need to restore people's livelihoods, which have fallen due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors, I can no longer delay and have decided to directly engage in district administration."
Chairman Jang presented his key pledges as ▲ transforming the K2 former site into a reform city ▲ creating quality jobs ▲ designating a safe zone ICT-based smart regulation innovation district ▲ strengthening public healthcare by attracting the 2nd Daegu Medical Center ▲ easing urban planning regulations and development constraints ▲ improving education and residential environment ▲ opening a renaissance era from Kumho River to Palgongsan.
He stated that over the past 20 years, he has served as a three-term Dong-gu council member and a two-term Daegu city council member, working as a budget and administration expert to expand living infrastructure in Dong-gu and secure budgets for future growth engines.
He expressed his ambition, saying, "Having lived in Dong-gu for over 50 years as a resident and served sequentially as a district council member and city council member, I have learned and gained experience. Based on the accumulated experience, I will work as an experienced mayor to bring definite change to Dong-gu and lead the innovative Dong-gu for the next 100 years."
Jang Sang-su has served as a member of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Daegu Dong-gu Council, chairman of the Local Council Association for Regional Balanced Development, chairman of the Daegu City District and County Council Chairpersons Association, chairman of the 7th Daegu City Council Budget and Accounts Special Committee, and senior vice chairman of the 17th Korea Council of City and Provincial Council Chairpersons in the first half of the term.
In the last presidential election, he served as the head of the Daegu headquarters of the Administrative and Autonomy Committee of Yoon Seok-yeol’s central election campaign committee.
