Jeonnam Fire Department Implements Fire Prevention Measures for Buddha's Birthday

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters is strengthening fire prevention measures for traditional temples and nearby forest areas in the province in preparation for Buddha's Birthday.

On May 8, Buddha's Birthday, this initiative aims to prevent fires caused by handling fire sources such as lanterns and candles in advance and to prevent the spread to surrounding forest areas.

Among the 505 wooden and traditional temples in the province, a joint special fire inspection will be conducted at 130 major temples with related organizations, and on-site visits and non-face-to-face safety consulting will be carried out for the remaining 375 temples.

The main measures include ▲checking the management status of fire-fighting facilities ▲confirming the installation of no-smoking signs and fire extinguishers around the area ▲providing safety management education for related personnel ▲removing fire-vulnerable factors around temples and urging prohibition of unauthorized burning.

In addition, fire commanders will be assigned and operate a 1:1 safety responsibility system for important wooden cultural assets and temples, and establish an initial response posture through a special alert duty campaign for Buddha's Birthday and forward deployment of major firefighting forces.

A representative of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters said, “Most temples are adjacent to forest areas, so if a fire occurs, it can spread into a large-scale fire causing significant damage,” and added, “We ask for active cooperation to ensure thorough prevention and careful handling of fire sources so that traditional temples and cultural assets are not damaged.”
