[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] An woman in her 80s residing in a nursing home in Udo-myeon, Jeju City, was urgently transferred by the Seogwipo Coast Guard.
According to the Seogwipo Maritime Police Station on the 14th, a report was received that an 80-year-old woman complaining of abdominal pain was examined at the Udo Health Center and required urgent transfer to a higher-level medical institution.
Responding to the report, the Seogwipo Coast Guard dispatched the Seongsan Police Substation coastal rescue boat to Udo and handed over the patient to the 119 ambulance team waiting at Seongsanpo Port at around 10:11 a.m.
On that day, in the eastern sea of Jeju, a wind and wave advisory had been issued since the previous night, and due to severe weather conditions including strong winds of 14-16 m/s and swell waves of 2-2.5 m, ferry operations were suspended.
A Seogwipo Coast Guard official said, “When ferry operations are suspended, it is difficult to respond to emergencies in island areas,” adding, “To protect the lives of emergency patients in island areas, we remain highly alert and maintain an immediate response posture during weather advisories.”
Meanwhile, the Seogwipo Coast Guard has transferred a total of 16 emergency patients this year.
