[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the international community pushes for a resolution containing new sanctions against North Korea, our diplomatic authorities have also exchanged opinions and formed a consensus on the matter.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the 14th, "The Republic of Korea and the United States share the view that firm measures by the Security Council are essential to respond to North Korea's provocations and deter further provocations," adding, "We agreed on the necessity of pursuing strong measures, including the promotion of a new resolution at the Security Council."

It is known that the two countries exchanged opinions regarding the new resolution during the Korea-US senior nuclear envoy talks held in the United States on the 4th.

The official said, "Our government will continue to maintain close communication with the major Security Council member states regarding the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and future response directions."

The new Security Council sanctions are expected to include expanding the scope of the ban on North Korean ballistic missiles to cover all delivery systems capable of carrying nuclear weapons, including cruise missiles.
