"Hyundai Movex Commercializes '10 Elevator Circulation Robot Transport' at Naver New Headquarters"

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Movex, which operates in logistics automation, announced on the 14th that it has supplied the Roboport, a robot-exclusive inter-floor transfer system, to Naver's new headquarters. This is a robot-exclusive elevator that moves service robots between floors. It is a core robot transfer equipment within the new headquarters where over 100 robots can call the dedicated elevator and autonomously board and disembark, controlled by Naver's cloud and 5G network-based multi-robot intelligent system called ARC.

Hyundai Movex developed this equipment together with Naver Labs and Naver. Development began in April 2020, and it was installed at the new headquarters site in June last year. After a long period of trial operation, the system was stabilized, and commercialization was successfully achieved in just over two years.

The system operates with 10 carriers (robot elevators) circulating using a 128m high vertical rail for ascent and descent and upper and lower traversers (horizontal moving devices between rails). Since many carriers must be controlled at a speed of 90m per minute, advanced technologies such as travel path algorithms, collision avoidance, and robot-linked predictive waiting systems were incorporated.

While a general elevator operates one elevator per shaft, Roboport circulates 10 carriers, enabling the transport of more units. The number of carriers is automatically adjusted according to the cargo volume through ARC control. Safety is enhanced with an automatic blocking device, and the use of regenerative strategies during descent is also an advantage.

A company official said, "As cases of robot operation within buildings increase, we will further advance the system and expand it into a new business model that can respond to emerging demands."
