Increase in Fire Incidents in Jeonbuk in Q1 This Year... Decrease in Casualties


[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] In the first quarter of this year, a total of 702 fire incidents occurred in Jeonbuk, resulting in 24 casualties and property damage worth over 7.2 billion KRW.


On the 14th, the Jeollabuk-do Fire Headquarters (Chief Choi Min-cheol) announced that an analysis of the fire occurrence status for the first quarter of 2022 showed an increase in the number of fires and property damage compared to the previous year, while casualties decreased.


The number of fire incidents increased by 27.2% (552 cases → 702 cases), and property damage rose by 17.1% (over 6.2 billion KRW → over 7.2 billion KRW), whereas casualties decreased by 20.0% (30 people → 24 people) compared to the previous year.


The locations of fire occurrences were ranked as follows: other outdoor areas 31.2% (219 cases), residential facilities 21.2% (149 cases), and industrial facilities 13.5% (95 cases).


By cause, negligence accounted for 65.4% (459 cases), electrical factors 16.0% (112 cases), and unknown causes 7.8% (55 cases).


Meanwhile, injuries in the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 39.3% (28 people → 17 people), but deaths increased by 6.4% (6 people) compared to the previous year. Both deaths and injuries occurred most frequently in residential facilities, with 71.4% (5 out of 7) of deaths occurring in residential facilities.


Regarding property damage, the breakdown was as follows: ships 44.1% (over 3.2 billion KRW), industrial facilities 27.4% (over 1.9 billion KRW), and residential facilities 10.1% (700 million KRW).


Chief Choi Min-cheol of the Fire Headquarters stated, “Based on the first quarter fire statistics analysis, we will actively promote proactive and appropriate fire prevention measures to do our best to protect the precious lives and property of the residents.”
