[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province is promoting the "Traditional Market Consumption Coupon Support Project," an Onnuri gift certificate refund event, as part of this year's new policies.
According to the city on the 14th, this project aims to help restore consumer sentiment weakened by the impact of COVID-19 and to revitalize traditional markets that have been stagnant due to decreased sales.
When purchasing goods at traditional markets, Onnuri gift certificates will be provided as consumption coupons in varying amounts depending on the purchase price, with the purpose of resolving the consumption slump in traditional markets and reducing the financial burden on consumers.
With a budget of 100 million KRW for this year, the project will be implemented twice each in the first and second halves of the year at local traditional markets including Saemgoeul Market, Shintaein Market, and Yeonji Market (Yeonji Market is scheduled for the second half as it is undergoing facility modernization).
The first half event will be held from the 18th on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.
During the event period, customers who purchase a total of 50,000 KRW or more but less than 100,000 KRW in a day will receive a 5,000 KRW Onnuri gift certificate refund, and those who purchase 100,000 KRW or more will receive a 10,000 KRW Onnuri gift certificate refund.
The gift certificate refund locations are the customer rest area inside Saemgoeul Market and the merchants' association office on the first floor of Shintaein Market.
When exchanging gift certificates, customers must bring the purchase receipt of the day (credit card slip or cash receipt).
The city plans to make every effort to promote consumption in traditional markets by posting event promotional banners in major city areas so that many citizens can participate in shopping at traditional markets.
A city official said, "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity to revitalize traditional markets struggling due to COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to do our best to activate the local consumer market and provide safe food to citizens."
