Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Songjeong Small Art Museum Hosts 'Stars of Gwangsan' Special Exhibition

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that from the 15th, it will hold a special exhibition of mid-career artists from Gwangsan-gu titled "Stars of Gwangsan" at the Songjeong Small Art Museum.

This is the first exhibition marking the full-scale operation of the Songjeong Small Art Museum, which opened last year.

Gwangsan-gu planned this exhibition to introduce the unique artistic worlds of painters from Gwangsan-gu such as Han Ui-won, Kim Young-hwa, Yoon Byung-hak, and Bae Il-seop, reflecting this significance.

Within the common denominator of Western painting, the four artists present 37 works expressing landscapes, objects, figures, and images from their individual perspectives.

Artist Han Ui-won exhibits works themed on the deep inner turmoil of humans, while artist Kim Young-hwa presents an exhibition themed on travel as an extension of everyday life.

Artist Bae Il-seop offers a critique of the absurdities in our politics and society, and artist Yoon Byung-hak meets the public with works that capture contradictions and irrational phenomena of modern society through linguistic symbols.

In particular, the stories about their "hometown Gwangsan-gu," cherished by the four artists with different temperaments and artistic styles, are a key point of interest in this exhibition.

The Gwangsan-gu that the artists experienced in their childhood?such as the grounds of Songjeong Girls' Middle School, Hwangryong River water play, the mulberry bridge at the entrance of Jiroji, neighborhood baseball with Seon Dong-ryeol, and the airfield?became an important source of inspiration and nourishment for their growth as representative artists of Gwangju and Jeonnam.

This exhibition is expected to become a special venue for communication between local artists and citizens through numerous memories and hidden stories of old Gwangsan.
