Gwangju Nam-gu, Baegun Plaza 'Resident Inconvenience Resolution Public-Private TF Team' Operation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has taken proactive measures, including forming a 'Resident Discomfort Resolution Public-Private TF Team,' to minimize various inconveniences caused by large-scale construction around Baegun Square.

On the 14th, Nam-gu announced, "As the urban railway Line 2 and the Baegun Square urban regeneration project, along with the construction of a high-rise apartment complex, are simultaneously underway around Baegun Square, resulting in frequent complaints about traffic congestion and pedestrian inconvenience, we have formed a public-private TF team involving residents to resolve these issues and have begun full-scale operations."

Currently, public projects such as construction for the new urban railway Line 2 and the street food zone, part of the urban regeneration project, are being carried out around Baegun Square.

In addition, apartment complex construction is simultaneously underway, including Namyang Hutton Apartments, Daerasu Apartments, Cheonnyeonga Apartments, and Utop Apartments. Along with redevelopment work due to the reconstruction of Jangmi Apartments, traffic congestion and pedestrian inconvenience during commuting hours have been continuously raised as issues.

Accordingly, Nam-gu formed a public-private TF team to resolve various inconveniences and held its first meeting on the same day.

The district office was attended by seven department heads, including the Director of the Safety City Bureau, who oversees resident safety and public projects, as well as heads of the Urban Planning Division, Urban Regeneration Division, Safety General Division, Construction Division, Architecture Division, Housing Division, and Traffic Guidance Division. On the private side, seven site managers from large construction sites around Baegun Square participated.

At the meeting, attendees agreed to devote all efforts to alleviating the difficulties faced by residents of Nam-gu and citizens of Gwangju due to the various ongoing construction projects.

In particular, to prevent traffic congestion and safety accidents, they decided to hold regular monthly meetings until the completion of construction and to conduct on-site meetings as needed when complaints arise, promptly communicating inconveniences to the relevant sites and preparing multifaceted solutions.

They also established a KakaoTalk group chat to share anticipated resident inconvenience issues in advance, aiming to minimize complaints.

A Nam-gu official stated, "The formation of the Resident Discomfort Resolution Public-Private TF Team is significant in establishing a cooperative system for local public projects," adding, "We will actively work to resolve residents' inconveniences through organic communication and countermeasure development between related department officials and construction site personnel."
