[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Comprehensive content media company Chorokbaem Media has succeeded in selling overseas license broadcasting rights for its second original IP drama, following the first original IP pre-produced drama ‘One Day,’ which recorded successful domestic and international box office last year.
Chorokbaem Media announced on the 14th that it signed an exclusive license sales contract with K-pop content distribution specialist ‘Corpus Korea’ for the Japanese region broadcasting/DVD/VOD rights of its original IP pre-produced drama ‘Bad Memory Eraser (working title),’ starring Kim Jaejoong and Jin Se-yeon.
‘Bad Memory Eraser,’ which began filming at the end of last year, is a pre-produced drama co-produced by Chorokbaem Media and ‘Kim Jonghak Production.’ It stars singer-turned-actor Kim Jaejoong, who has a strong fan base in Japan, and Jin Se-yeon, who possesses solid acting skills.
Scheduled to air in the first half of this year, this work is a growth drama and a mistaken observation romance in which the protagonists, who thought they could heal their pain with ‘Bad Memory Eraser,’ find their true selves through love. The script is written by writer Jung Eun-young, who debuted with ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,’ adding more fun to the story.
With this license sale, ‘Bad Memory Eraser’ became the first pre-produced work by Chorokbaem Media to generate global sales this year. Since Chorokbaem Media co-owns the original IP with Kim Jonghak Production, it expects to expand profits through additional global broadcasting rights sales in Southeast Asia and other regions.
A Chorokbaem Media official said, “Beyond the Japanese region where broadcasting rights have been sold, unlimited expansion is possible to overseas export regions such as Asia, the Americas, and Europe, leading to a dominant positive outlook of ‘maximizing profit generation.’” He added, “Breaking away from the previously limited profit structure of the outsourcing production model, leading direct domestic and international distribution of rights is expected to result not only in growth in scale and profits but also gradual increase in corporate value.”
He continued, “As global platforms have recently shown heightened interest and expectations in securing excellent K-drama content, we will do our best to expand the global market distribution of the drama ‘Bad Memory Eraser.’”
Corpus Korea, responsible for distributing ‘Bad Memory Eraser’ in the Japanese region under this contract, is a specialist in Hallyu content and has secured competitive content licenses for 17 years, holding the largest record of K-content sales to Japan in Korea.
Recently, Corpus Korea has expanded its business beyond leading Hallyu content distribution to original IP development and investment, actively developing various content IPs such as dramas, webtoons, web novels, and audiobooks, and is accelerating the expansion of OSMU (One Source Multi Use) business through these efforts.
