Jangseong-gun Supports Horticultural Crop Producers with 'Cold Storage' Facilities

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 11th that it will promote a cold storage support project for horticultural crop producing farms.

Cold storage, which stores agricultural products for a long time at low temperatures, is an essential facility for horticultural crops such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers, where freshness maintenance greatly affects product preservation and price formation.

Using cold storage to store agricultural products during the harvest season allows for appropriate adjustment of shipment volume according to market conditions and helps increase farm income; however, the high installation cost is considered a major burden for farmers.

Accordingly, the county secured a budget of 340 million KRW, including provincial funds, this year to support 53 cold storage units.

The support targets farms cultivating vegetables, fruit trees, specialty crops, greenhouse facilities, and mushrooms with an area of less than 2 hectares.

The county supports 50-60% of the cold storage installation cost only for farms meeting the area criteria.

The support amount has been increased compared to last year in line with the inflation rate.

The 3-pyeong type increased from 6 million KRW to 6.3 million KRW, and the 20-pyeong type was significantly raised from 40 million KRW to 70 million KRW.

A county official said, "We aim to reduce the management burden on farmers and help secure income by supporting the installation cost of cold storage, which is an essential facility for horticulture. Since it is highly preferred by farms, we plan to continue support in the future."
