30 Million Won Each to Families of Three Fallen Coast Guard Officers
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] S-OIL announced on the 11th that it will provide consolation money of 30 million KRW each to the bereaved families of Namhae Regional Coast Guard Aviation Unit members Sergeant Jeong Duhwan, Sergeant Cha Ju-il, and Sergeant Hwang Hyunjun, who died in the line of duty after a helicopter crash while returning from a search operation for a missing tugboat in the Taiwan waters.
The deceased were deployed at around 1:30 a.m. on the 8th to search for the missing tugboat "Gyoto 1" in the Taiwan waters. While returning, their helicopter, an S-92, crashed approximately 370 km southwest of Marado, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju.
An S-OIL official stated, "We pray for the repose of the Coast Guard officers who dedicated themselves to protecting the safety and lives of the people and suffered an unfortunate accident. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families," adding, "We hope the consolation money will help the families overcome their grief and live stably."
Since 2013, S-OIL has maintained various sponsorship activities by signing the "Coast Guard Hero Keeper" agreement with the Coast Guard, including scholarship support for children of fallen Coast Guard officers, medical expense support for injured officers, rest camps for Coast Guard couples, and awards for heroic Coast Guard officers. Since last year, it has also been providing consolation money to the families of fallen Coast Guard officers.
