Changwon Citizens Will Check Fine Dust and Ozone Levels at Traffic Lights!

9 More Locations in Gaeumjeong-dong, Naeseo-eup, and Hoewon-gu, Total 26 Sites in Operation

Changwon Citizens Will Check Fine Dust and Ozone Levels at Traffic Lights! Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, will additionally install fine dust and ozone traffic lights at nine locations in the areas of Gaeumjeong-dong, Naeseo-eup, and Hoewon-gu.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Residents of Changwon City, Gyeongnam, can now check fine dust and ozone levels anywhere in the city.

Changwon City has decided to install 9 additional fine dust and ozone signal lights so that citizens can check and utilize fine dust and ozone levels in their daily lives.

Since 2018, 17 locations have been installed and operated, and the decision to add more was made to protect the health of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Including 9 more locations in Ga-eumjeong-dong, a fine dust intensive management area, and in Naeseo area with a large vulnerable population, as well as elementary schools, markets, and parks around Hoeweon-gu, the city plans to operate a total of 26 locations throughout Changwon.

Unlike general traffic lights that only indicate whether pedestrians can cross, the fine dust and ozone signal lights display concentrations of fine dust and ozone, as well as temperature, humidity, and wind direction information 24 hours a day.

This information is linked in real time with Air Korea, operated by the Korea Environment Corporation, to provide guidance.

At the top of the signal light screen, a character showing different facial expressions according to the fine dust concentration appears, and just below it, the concentration is indicated by colors: blue for good, green for moderate, yellow for bad, and red for very bad, allowing air quality to be recognized from a distance.

Choi Jae-an, Director of the Environment and Urban Bureau, said, “We hope to quickly recognize and respond to high concentrations of fine dust and ozone,” and added, “We will implement measures to reduce air pollution such as fine dust to create air quality that allows Changwon citizens to breathe safely.”
