Yoo Seung-min: "Oh Se-hoon, a Long-Standing Bond That Doesn't Require the Word 'One Team'... Close Cooperation on GTX"

Request to Ease Total Volume Regulation on Metropolitan Buses
"There Are Many Areas for Cooperation Between Gyeonggi-do and Seoul in Housing Issues"

[Asia Economy Reporters Naju-seok and Im Cheol-young] Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who is running for governor of Gyeonggi Province, met with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to discuss cooperation on transportation and housing policies. Yoo emphasized that his relationship with Mayor Oh is "a very precious and long-standing connection, so much so that we don't even need to use the word 'one team.'"

On the 11th, former lawmaker Yoo had breakfast with Mayor Oh at Seoul City Hall. After the breakfast, he told reporters, "Regarding transportation issues, Gyeonggi Province and Seoul City agreed to closely coordinate on necessary matters, especially GTX, subways, and metropolitan buses." Yoo, who took a metropolitan bus from Suwon to Seoul City Hall, also discussed the rapid completion of GTX, easing total volume regulations on metropolitan buses, and plans to introduce Ddareungi bike-sharing within Gyeonggi Province.

Regarding housing issues, Yoo said, "There are many areas where Gyeonggi Province and Seoul City can cooperate to stabilize the real estate market, improve residents' living environments, and help realize the dream of home ownership."

He particularly stressed, "To decisively end and correct the 12 years of Lee Jae-myung's era in Seongnam City and 4 years in Gyeonggi Province, the candidate who wins the main election must be from the People Power Party. If we fail to win the main election, the Lee Jae-myung era will be revived."

Yoo added, "If I become the People Power Party candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, candidates from the three metropolitan governments in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Incheon, will gather to discuss policies that we can and must implement for the citizens and residents."

He also noted, "Mayor Oh and I have had a connection for 23 years. During that time, as a reform-minded young lawmaker within the party, we have shared many philosophies." He said, "If Mayor Oh and I can cooperate as Seoul Mayor and Gyeonggi Province Governor, it will be beneficial for the residents of Gyeonggi Province and Seoul citizens."

Yoo's meeting with Mayor Oh is interpreted as an effort to showcase the potential for cooperation between neighboring metropolitan leaders to enhance competitiveness. Since Kim Eun-hye, a People Power Party lawmaker who served as spokesperson for President-elect Yoon Seok-youl, entered the Gyeonggi Province governor primary, the race has become volatile. Earlier, Kim emphasized in her candidacy announcement, "I have worked closely with President-elect Yoon and Mayor Oh during the last presidential and by-elections," adding, "We are already one team."

Public opinion polls have also been fluctuating. According to a poll conducted by Monoresearch on behalf of the Kyungin Ilbo from the 8th to 9th, surveying 1,007 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Gyeonggi Province, Kim received 17.6% support, Yoo 14.6%, and former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon, running as the Democratic Party candidate for governor, 13.7%, showing a close race within the margin of error. However, in the suitability survey for the People Power Party candidate, Yoo was ahead of Kim by 9.8 percentage points.
